"Joan Bailin was the Director of Professional Services at Ville Marie Social Service Centre for many years before VMSSC was merged into what became Batshaw Youth and Family Centres."
Ms. Bailin donated the statue that was given on two occasions to VM staff who were recognized for clinical excellence. According to the inscriptions on the base of the statue which depicts a mother and child, it was awarded to Yvonne Hutchinson, Gina Carvalho, France Goulet and Christiane Bertrand for their initiative “Life Books for Children in Long Term Foster Care”. The year of this award is not noted. In March 1993, the award went to Maureen Stafford of the Douglas Hospital. The initiative for which Ms. Stafford was recognized is not noted.
Ms. Bailin also established the Joan Macfarlane Bailin Research Award at McGill University’s School of Social Work. She was a graduate of the McGill School of Social Work and she wished to recognize and promote academic achievement by students in the School of Social Work. The Award permits its recipient to engage in activities or research relating to aging and/or the aged.
